The Beauties of Africa

Being a native of South Africa, I thought that these extraordinary images of magnificent wild animals of Eastern and Southern Africa would be of interest to some. I have always believed that a picture is worth a thousand words so I hope you enjoy. It is hard to fully appreciate these amazing creatures without actually visiting Africa and seeing them in the wild. I recommend that everyone try to include a trip to Africa, if possible, on your "bucket list." A trip to Africa would open your eyes so you can fully appreciate the unique continent and its wildlife. I strongly believe in doing whatever we can to protect this wild land and its inhabitants for future generations. Regrettably, not everyone feels that way. I recently met a man, here in Florida, who boasted that he had visited Southern Africa and shot some 35 elephants over the course of several trips. I don’t know about you, but I don’t view taking the life of an innocent, potentially endangered, animal as a fun vacation excursion, much less something to add to my trophy collection.

In the words of the photographer Nick Brandt:
"What I am interested in is showing these animals simply in the state of being before they no longer are and cease to exist in the wild. My images are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."
